Say a Prayer for our Christmas Tree

It is going to be a long month of psycho watching the lil man around the Christmas tree. When we took out the box of ornaments he exclaimed "OH!!! BALLS"!!! This year it has taken me more time to get the tree decorated...I wonder why! haha Well, Friday evening we tried to start putting the lights on the tree while Dane was awake...not a good idea. He was very intrigued by the lights, and wanted to put them around his neck. We only got halfway done when Dane grabbed a handful of lights hanging from the tree and preceded to take off running with them in hand. Oh my gosh, I thought the tree was going to fall on top of him. So, we decided real quick that Dane would not be a part of decorating the tree this year. I had thought he would enjoy helping putting the ornaments on the tree, but he kept thinking they were balls, and wanted to show us how good he could throw. So, booger had to go to bed and wait till the morning to see the final product! Our tree looks so pretty!! I hope that it stays this way.

Today Dane had several sneaky moments where he would go to the tree and try to take a "ball" off. Man, Kevin and I were constantly saying no leave it alone.... He likes to throw balls under the tree, and then make Kevin crawl under it to get it! I have a standing santa by the tree, and Dane just won't leave him alone. He keeps touching his beard and then will push him down. A couple times I caught him carrying the Santa around the house. I guess it is his new friend. Maybe this will help with Dane visiting Santa, and will be less traumatic than what happened last year... ha yeah I'm not counting on it! So, it may be a long month. I just have a bad feeling that I am going to walk in and find the tree on the ground! But, I will say it is so cute to hear him say "OOOOOOHHHHHH", while looking at the tree! He thinks it is so cool!

And the final Product...

Black Friday Extreme

Well I got led down the road of peer pressure. I did. And I am still paying for it.

I recently saw this quote on a plaque when I was at the Christmas market, and It reminds me of me and my girlfriends.

"A good friend will come and bail you out of jail...
but only a true friend will be sitting next to you saying... "God, that was fun!""

Well, my friend Tabitha talked me into going to Toys R Us at midnight on thanksgiving night to do a little black Friday shopping. She said "oh I doubt that many people will go, we should go, it will be fun". So, like the great friend I am I obliged. :) Ok, so she didn't have to tie my hands behind my back or anything...I thought the same thing she did about it being fun and not really many people there.

Boy were we wrong. We got there about 11:45 to find a line all the way around the building. The parking lot was totally full, and we had to park at the next shopping center over. I kept thinking surely we won't stay...but we did. After parking far away, walking up to the store the line had gone all the way around the building, and around another building that was next to it. At first we were like well lets just see how fast the line moves once they open up. Well...it didn't move fast. Not even a little bit fast.

Oh, did I mention that it was freezing. And we were standing behind the most obnoxious guy ever who shouted every time he talked, and another guy who talked to himself, and told us everything that was in the ad and how much they were about 10, 000 times. We did have some cheap, but annoying entertainment. We waited. And waited. and waited some more. We were miserable...but for some crazy reason we stuck it out. Are you ready to hear what time we actually made it into the store... Dum Dum Dum 2:45AM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We stood in line in the freezing cold for 3 long miserable hours! What were we thinking???? Every muscle in my body ached from the cold that caused them to tighten up. Oh, and I really didn't get anything that was on sale! HA!

What are friends for right??????? But, Tabitha and I both agreed that we will NEVER do this again! NEVER!!!! It was just plain crazy! We got home about 4 that morning, and I have to say that my body still aches, and I think we lost some toes to frost bite!!!!! Tabitha and I can have fun anywhere though. Kevin told me that there was no way that I would ever be in a good mood with him if we had done that! He said I would have been mad at him...and he is probably right! It is a good thing I was with my Tabby Tab. We have done lots of crazy things, but this was probably the craziest yet!

Thanksgiving 2009

We had thanksgiving in Orange this year with my fun, but totally loud and wild family. It is always pretty crazy and chaotic at my grandparents house due to how many people are usually there. We have a huge family, and every year it seems to get even bigger. Usually everyone has staked out their spot pretty early, with the men in the living room watching football, the women in the kitchen, the little kids running from the back of the house to the front, and me along with 2 of my cousins sitting close to the homemade mac & cheese. My grandparents make sure to walk around and tell every single person there how special they are, and drown them with hugs and kisses. It takes hours to prepare all the food, and minutes to consume it. There is always tons of food, with desserts galore! It is always a great time, lots of laughing and picking on each other.

my little family with someone who was refusing to look at the camera

My cousins Lindsay and Haley (the ones who stalk the mac & cheese with me)---we are the 3 favorite grandchildren---well, I am actually the favorite, but I let them think they are favorites too :)

Granny, Poppy & their grandchildren

this paci was stuck in Dane's mouth the whole time we were in Orange...not good

My sweet grandmother, aunt Darla, Cousin Lindsay, Mom, Cousin Haley, Aunt Donna, me & lil man
This was our group shot right before something hysterical happened... wait for it wait for it wait for it...

Kevin was taking pictures of us, and told me that there was a glare from the window so I pulled down the blind and then this happened!!! Kevin caught it too! I guess I took him literally when he said to pull down the blind.

We have a family tradition that us girls do every year on thanksgiving. After every one's food has settled down we head over to the movie theatre to watch a movie. So, Kevin stayed with Dane and Poppy and my mom, 2 aunts and my cousin Lindsay went and saw Blind Side, which happens to be an AWESOME movie!! I def recommend seeing this! Sandra Bullock did really well, and Tim McGraw was in the movie as well! Someone didn't go with us this year...ahem Haley...because someone has a boyfriend! :( just kidding! I love this movie tradition that us girls have!

We had a great thanksgiving this year! So much to be thankful for! Truly blessed for sure!

Give Thanks

Another year has come and gone. And Another year to give thanks!

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I love the fall weather, the color of the leaves, getting to hang out with family, eating yummy food, pies, pies pies, family movie night, black Friday shopping etc etc etc.

There are so many things to be thankful for this year. Of course, there are the obvious... family, friends, home, job etc etc. But, this year has given me other things to be thankful for. I can't say that this year has been our easiest year. In fact it has been pretty tough with all that has gone on with Dane and his hip.

But, this year I am thankful for the fact that I have a strong little booger, who is so full of life and energy and who doesn't let the tough times get him down. I'm thankful that even though he went through so much his zest for life has never disappeared, and his sweet personality never changed. I'm thankful that there are awesome orthopedic surgeons, who can guide us in the direction to go with the future of Dane's hip. To say I'm thankful that Dane is not needing another surgery right now would be a total understatement. I'm thankful that Dane has learned to re-walk, climb, run etc, and I am so grateful that one day his hip will have better mobility. I'm thankful for the fact that we had so much family and friend support through this year. This year has given me so much more to be thankful for.

Physical Therapy Evaluation

Wednesday we had to go to Texas Children's Hospital for Dane's physical therapy appointment. The appointment was just a evaluation so the therapist could get an idea of what exactly the lil man needs. Basically, they just let Dane play and run a around for a little bit, so they could watch his movements. Then Meredith, the therapist had to do some measurements on Dane's hip, and exercises to see exactly how stiff the joint was. Dane did good for the 1st 30 minutes of the appointment, when he was able to just play and do his own thing. Once Meredith needed him to do certain activities we had quiet the meltdown. There was so much to play with and distract him, that he didn't want to follow specific instructions, he wanted to mainly play with a bike that had a steering wheel. She would say Dane can you climb the stairs for me, and he would say no! I'm hoping that once he starts the actual therapy he will be more cooperative when they need him to do a certain thing. The good thing about this place was that it did not have a hospital feel to it. Very colorful, lots of toys and mats...almost like a gymboree gym, so Dane had a blast running around and wasn't scared or clingy at all. So, his activities may have to be geared around the things he likes to do, such as playing with balls and steering wheels.
We are hoping that we can transfer to the Cypress location, but probably won't know about scheduling until later this week. The therapists were encouraged that the physical therapy would help Dane's hip. They thought his lack of certain movements would improve over the duration of the sessions, and that since he is so motivated to run around that this wouldn't slow him down, but actually make him more mobile. Great! I'm excited that the 1st appointment went well, and I am eager to see how he improves!

Behind Behind Behind...

on blogging... We have been so busy lately...but no excuse though!

so grab some popcorn and get comfy...

I came home from work today to some awesome artwork from my little man. I thought this was so cute that they made this, and they had it laminated! And how neat that they took pictures of him at school! Can you believe that we found a school that takes pictures of my lil man during the day, and then sends them home for me to have! Right up my alley! I love it!

Dane is doing so great at his school. He loves going, and is learning so much. I can't say that everything that he has learned has been great...such as the word mine. He says mine all the time now. But, he seems to be interacting with the other kids, and has learned to share. The sharing thing is a work in progress... sometimes he is really good at it, and other times not so much. :) They do lots of finger painting, and he is sent home with fridge art pretty much every day. I have started a binder to store all the cute stuff he has made.
These are pictures of pictures..so clarity isn't great...but you get the idea. Dane is having fun, and I feel good about sending him there. This is something I can add to my list that I am thankful for this year!

Got ourselves a true artist!

Tomorrow we have our patient evaluation for Dane's physical therapy. I'm hoping that Dane will cooperate so they can fully see what he needs. Then after our appointment we are heading to Orange for turkey day! I hope that everyone has a great thanksgiving!

Christmas tree

Well, Sunday evening we unloaded all the closets that contained Christmas decorations. Monday I had planned for us to decorate the tree, but it didn't happen. Kevin took out all the pieces to the tree and laid them out, and had them all organized. Well, little man thought it was his job to re-arrange the pieces! haha I kept hearing Kevin saying no no leave that one there. Then it started getting late, and Dane needed a bath and dinner...so needless to say the tree did not get decorated. So, it will have to wait till after thanksgiving. :(

Weekend in Dallas

So one of the reasons I have been MIA lately is that we went to Dallas this past weekend. This originally was going to be a girls weekend, and we were going to go to our annual Chi Omega Christmas Market. This is a huge market put on our college sorority that has lots of vendors come in to sell really neat stuff, and a lot of the money that is made goes to charities that Chi Omega supports. Well, 2 of us weren't able to make it this year, not saying any names... ahem Zab and Hilley. So, It was just going to be 3 of us this year. Well, this turned into a family affair. Kevin and Dane rode along for the ride.

We started off the weekend with Kevin dropping me off at the market and him going to meet Chad, Tabitha's hubby. I hung out with Tabitha and Ashley and we shopped till we dropped. I got to meet Ashley's newest little man, Grant. He is a little older than a month now, and is so so so precious! I wish I would have taken a picture of us 3 together! But, I forgot :( Many more Christmas markets to come!!

After the market we headed over to the Gaylord Hotel. Every year at Christmas time the hotel has an ice Exhibit. This year was the Grinch stole Christmas theme. It was so so cool. No Pun intended. The whole exhibit was sculpted ice in the shape of the characters, and very colorful. It was freezing!! I believe that it was in the negatives...not exaggerating. Before you walked in we were given parkas to help keep you warm and dry. This was so much fun to go through, and it was totally amazing to see how detailed the ice had been sculpted. Everything was ice!! It was unbelievable! Dane couldn't stand up well in his parka, so he had to be carried most of the way through the exhibit. We had a good time hanging out with Tabitha and Chad. And, the little boys had a blast playing together. Dane and Gage really got along great. It is so much fun to watch them interact together. They are 2 peas in a pod. Best friends already!

We had a great weekend. Dane did awesome on the drive there and back. I think he had fun getting to go on a road trip, and hanging out with his BFF.

Warning... picture overload ahead!!!!
