What's in a Name

So, we are going to have a little pronunciation lesson today.
You will be so smart after this! Ha

Ok, first up my last name:
WITTSCHEN

It's a tricky one.  And it's not pronounced how it's spelled.  I remember when Kevin and I were first dating my mom would ask "Ok, say his last name again".  And we would laugh after me telling her I'm going to need you to get it bc he isn't going anywhere.
I went from a last name that was pretty self explanatory,  pronounced exactly how it was spelled.
STANFIELD
only one way to say it.   I went down in the alphabet with Wittschen, but I love having that as my last name.  I think it's a cool last name.  It's one of those names that is very unique, and you don't hear all the time.  I also like that Kevin gets called Wittschen from his guy friends instead of his first name.  I'm sure Dane will be called Wittschen as well from coaches or guy friends.

Ok, enough of the babble...let's get onto how to say it.
I hear a lot of wrong ways...
WITTS-CHIN
WITT-SIN
WITT-SHIN
WITTS-HEN

All wrong.  The S throws people off.  It's just there for decoration, not to sound out. Ok, not really for decoration purposes, but let's pretend it is.

WITTSCHEN...
think of it as
 WITCHEN
rhymes with kitchen
so say it with me WITCHEN WITCHEN
WITTSCHEN

Great Job!!!
Lesson 2
It doesn't bother me when people mispronounce Wittschen, because I know it's tricky.
But, you know what totally drives me INSANE???
When people don't get my first name right.
what???? you mean people don't know how to pronounce the simplest name of all times?
JAYNE
I mean, really it's the plainest name there is...
But, I get people calling me
JAY-NEE
ALL.THE.TIME
and it drives me absolutely bonkers.
The Y is silent folks.  It's just there to make my name look prettier, and not be so plain.
I grew up with family calling me Jaynie pooh, and that doesn't bother me.  That form of Jay-ne was fine.  But, when people call me Jay-nee for real, it brings me back to my high school days.  I had a teacher my sophomore year who would call me JAY-NEEEEE STANFIELD every day when calling roll.  No matter how many times I corrected her, the next day was the same thing.  Like nails on a chalk board.  UUGGHH!!
Ok, so say it with me JANE JANE
JAYNE
And that's it friends.  That's our pronunciation lesson of the day.
Y'all did great, and y'all are so smart.

Cooking Light

Yesterday was exactly one month since I've given up sodas!! And it's also been exactly one month since I started counting calories and being very conscious of what all I'm eating. I don't crave sodas at all anymore. I've been drinking a lot of water throughout the day, and trying to make healthier choices. I will tell you something that I have noticed since I gave up sodas, which this may be pure coincidence but I'm really thinking not. Ever since being pregnant with Dane I have suffered from acid reflux and heartburn. When I was pregnant the acid reflux and heartburn was blamed on everything being pushed up by the little man. But, after he was born I continued to have it. Not only have I had the acid reflux and heartburn, but I have also had a continuous cough for years and constantly feeling like I have to clear my throat. Just recently I went to the doctor to get it all checked out, because my mom had me paranoid (thanks Mom) that it was something really serious. I had tests run and chest x-rays and it was diagnosed that I just had acid reflux. Well, I was given a prescription and it made me feel terrible while taking it, so I quit taking the medication because I felt worse than I did pre-medicine. Y'all I have not had ANY acid reflux or heartburn since I have given up the sodas. Not only that, my cough seems to be gone completely as well. It could just be pure chance, but I really think the acid in the sodas has a lot to do with it. So, I have given up sodas, and I mentioned counting calories. One month later I'm down 11.4 lbs. I feel like I'm accomplishing something!!! So... a friend told me about the cooking light magazines which has low calorie meals in it. We got the March addition and have been cooking meals out of it. It has not disappointed whatsoever. I am really shocked at how tasty these meals have been. They are really good, and you honestly can not tell the difference in the low calorie ingredients. And everyone knows how picky I am, but I'm telling you these meals have been really good. There's so many recipes in the magazine. We haven't gone through the whole March one yet, but looking forward to getting April's as well. I'm so happy to be adding to our meal rotation, because dinner can be pretty frustrating at our house. I'm really excited that I can eat a really good meal without having a ton of calories. Here are some of the meals we have been cooking. If you want the recipes let me know I would be happy to share.

Just some pics

Little man before school... getting so big! And willing to wear flip flops finally.  He had some last year, but couldn't get over the thing between the toes so they were a failure. But, these are a hit...probably because Lightening McQueen is on the cushion of the shoe.

My boys like to wrestle and have pillow fights... definitely not my thing.
Another "boy" thing
They get pretty rough.  And Dane loves every minute of it.

It's Wednesday.
And I'm ready for the weekend.
Nothing new there.

Sunday Funday

Don't cha love when your weekend doesn't fly by.  I feel like today went by rather slowly, which is a first and I loved every minute of it.  I was able to run errands, piddle at Target, do some laundry, have a water gun fight with the little man, catch up on some tv and I still had time left to just enjoy the day.  Back to the grind tomorrow. Booh!
Kevin did some more yard work... he actually worked his tail off today and is pretty pooped.  He planted some new plants in our front yard.  Looks kind of weird with the one big plant and then all the little ones, but I know once they start growing it's going to look so good.  He put in 3 knock out rose bushes and then some plants that are suppose to be easy to maintain as fillers.  I can't remember what he called them.  One of our knock out bushes is already blooming a little. He said he wasn't done, was going to add some more but not for a few weeks.

And because I know everyone is living in suspense with what ever happened to Dane's birthday balloon, so here's a quick update on our good friend Lightening.
He is still with us.  And doing just fine. It's amazing.  He is a true rock star.  He has become just another permanent fixture in Dane's room.

And you know what else is going on??
Yep it's that time again...
fantasy baseball drafts.  I don't know anything about it other than Kevin has done this with the same group of guys since he was in high school, and it's something he really enjoys doing.  He has 2 drafts... one tonight, and then he is also on a fantasy team with his co-workers and the draft for that one is next wknd.  The other thing I know is that it takes hours, and he locks himself in his office with music and all his stats while staring at his dinosaur computer.  I do my best to keep the little man out of his hair so he can focus on getting the team mates he wants. Ha
And something else that is going on at the moment...
Little man getting distracted with his toys instead of cleaning his playroom like he is suppose to be doing.
We have to give him one task at a time or he can't seem to focus.  "Ok Dane, go pick up all your cars and put them in the bucket" then when he says he did it and is so excited and proud of himself we throw another one at him. "Ok, go gather up all your super heroes and put them in this container"
And so on... and 100 hrs later after he has played with everything he owns and the room starts to look a bit more put together.
But, then there are times when we go to put him in his bed and there is a mountain of toys "hiding" under his covers or he has gathered up everything he owns and is in a giant pile in his play tunnel etc.
Right now I hear him having a conversation with his leg guys... so I'm thinking the cleaning has been put on the back burner! HA

Saturday continued

After we got back from the crawfish festival we turned on some music in our garage and played a few rounds of darts while letting Dane play in the sprinklers in the front yard.  Total relaxation for the end of the Saturday.  Sprinklers is cheap entertainment for the little man.  He had a blast.  I'm sure our neighbors could hear him squealing and giggling.
Once we came in and got all cleaned up it was declared movie night.  We put on a movie for Dane, and then Kevin and I watched the new movie Footloose!!!! I'm embarrassed to have to admit that, but it wasn't as cheesy as I thought it was going to be.  I mean, cheesy but not over the top cheesy. Ha  It stayed pretty true to the original.  It was a good Saturday in our books!

It's that time again...

Crawfish Festival Time!!!!!

I love crawfish festivals. Funny thing though, I don't eat crawfish.  Is that weird?  The atmosphere is so much fun at the festivals.  Especially when the weather is gorgeous like it was today, not too hot yet.  Being outside, looking at all the vendors, Kevin chowing down on crawfish and me getting to try festival food, enjoying rides, and of course listening to zydeco music are just something that we really enjoy doing.  Love me some zydeco music!
So, we went to Somervile earlier today to partake in the festivities.  We couldn't have asked for better weather.  Kevin got his crawfish fix, and I had some REALLY good boudin.  Very yummy!! Great day, for sure.  We ate, walked around, sat in the shade and listened to music.  And Dane rode on the carnival rides.  And you can tell from the pictures that he did not enjoy himself at all.  Ha
I managed to only get pictures of him on the rides and none of the festival part.  Whoops.
We stayed at the festival for about 3 hours, and then made our way home.  We had to make a quick visit to Dairy Queen on the way out of Somerville to get some mini blizzards to cool us off.  Somehow I was the only who managed to get sun burned... I have a pretty farmers tan on my arms. Lovely.
We love crawfish season... such a fun time.

Cell Phone Dump

Sitting here watching tv and playing with my phone.  Not much is going on at the moment.  Nothing to really write about... It's been just a normal week, and I'm ready for the weekend.  Anyway, thought I would dump some cell phone pics on here just to keep you folks (aka Dane's grandparents) entertained for a couple days.

So let's start with this... Dane's 1st time eating pop rock candy.  He was shocked that it was popping in his mouth... but he loved it.  He cracked up every time it would tingle his tongue

Little man embarrassed to look at the camera... or maybe just being stubborn. Got his tool belt on with handcuffs hanging from it, a sword on one side, and a wrench on the other side. Whatever works to get those bad guys out of the house.

Ready to swim.

His best "CHEEEEEEEESEEEEEE"

Booger was out cold! Hate that he has to wake up so early for school

My boys met me by my job this evening to eat dinner.  It was GORGEOUS weather, and we wanted to eat outside.  Quicker for them to come meet me than wait on me to fight traffic to get to them
Crazy how wonderful of a day it turned out to be even though it rained cats and dogs this morning.
Nice weather +my boys + Mexican food + eating outside = perfection

I had about a 20 minute lead on Kevin and Dane going home from the restaurant.  They were able to take the HOV lane, and lo and behold... they passed me as I came to a screeching halt due to work traffic
