A Stay-Cation

Last week was a doozie.
And I have another hard week ahead.  Not looking forward to it.  But, I'm feeling more refreshed and energized after this past weekend.  Kevin and I got to enjoy a wonderful weekend just the two of us.  The beginning of last week we were feeling that we needed a break.  Dane hasn't been really bad, just extremely hyper and chatty and needy.  Our patience level was low, and we were on edge.  There were moments I could have just locked myself in my bathroom for a few hours. Ha
My mom came to the rescue and offered to take Dane for the weekend.  We were/are very appreciative.
We had ourselves a bit of a vacation...or stay-cation if you will.

Let's get to the wknd.
Friday night we had a very impromptu visit from our friend Tamara.  I was on my way home from work when she called and said she was in town to help with a wedding and was kidnapping us for dinner. So, I ran home to change clothes before going for Mexican food.  We all had fun at dinner, and Dane was all about having company.  He is such a flirt, it's unreal.  We hadn't seen Tamara in a long time, but we always just pick up where we left off no matter how long it's been.

Saturday morning while Kevin had his 1st softball practice of the season Dane and I headed to Baytown to meet my mom.  Dane was super pumped that he was going to Granny's and Poppy's house without us.  We were too! Ha
We started off our kid-free weekend with a lunch date at the movie theater.  It's been forever that we have been to the movies to see an adult movie.
We saw The Lucky One... total stereotypical chick flick but I enjoyed it.

Dane stayed busy in Orange.  I got sent pics ever so often.  He enjoyed playing outside in their big yard, helping to wash my mom's car, swimming in the pool etc etc.  He had a blast!

Saturday afternoon Cypress had a wine festival/taste of Cypress event that we went to and had so much fun.  There were booths everywhere with different vendors serving their signature wines, and restaurant booths from the Cypress area giving away food samples.  The event was WAY bigger and better than I was expecting.  We enjoyed live music while going to each booth sampling the various wines and grubbing on all the good food from all the local restaurants.  It was insanely windy, and my hair was being whipped around and nearly blowing out of my head.  I was looking a bit crazy from the second I got out of the car.  Thankfully, I had a ponytail and clip to pull all my hair back.  The guys doing the live music were really good.  They sang every kind of song you could think of from Johnny Cash, 70's folk music, and Texas country.  With admission you were able to visit all the booths as many times as you wanted, and were also given a bag full of goodies like coupons to restaurants, and wine type souvenirs. All the food was really good.  Kevin's favorite, which he visited quite often was the booth from Johnny Carino's giving away stuffed mushrooms.  I think my favorite was Road House serving brisket and their famous rolls.  There are a lot of local places in the Cypress area with some really good wine!! I was impressed with how many vendors there were at this festival!!!  It was pretty packed, but they had it spread out that you never felt trapped in a huge crowd.
This will be an event we attend each year, for sure.  Good Job Cypress!

Kevin has been craving the peppered bacon from Buffalo Grill, so we went there this weekend.  We don't get to go that often now that we live in Cypress.  But, when we lived downtown we ate their quite often.  This is Kevin's favorite breakfast place!!  He LOVES their bacon. So, we had a nice breakfast before heading out for some more weekend fun.

We wanted a relaxing day, and to get out of Houston since we were kid free.  Ended up in Galveston, and it was the perfect perfect perfect day.  Hung out at The Spot for some lunch and a tropical drink.  We sat outside on their upstairs patio, able to see the beach and enjoy being outside.  They have these big loungy chairs that sits two that we claimed for several hours.  It was so relaxing to be chilling in this big comfy chair, while listening to and watching the waves crash and listening to music. It was nice to be able to just sit there, do nothing, relax, and eat lunch all while spending time together and just have conversations about things other than 4 year old talk.  We really needed some alone time, and being in Galveston made for a wonderful day.
Would you believe me if I told you at some point while we were lounging I had Kevin go and grab my fleece jacket that was in the back of my car.  It was fairly overcast and really windy, so I was pretty chilly. I'm sure I looked crazy wearing a fleece jacket at the end of April at the beach.  Crazier things have happened, I suppose.
This weekend was so needed, and ended up being one of the best ones we have had in a long time!!
Dane really enjoyed being at his Granny and Poppy's house.  I was off today, so met my mom in Baytown to pick Dane up.  He was happy to see me, but sad he had to come back home with me.  He wanted to stay at his Granny's longer.  HA
Thanks Mom for taking Dane for a couple nights!!! Very much appreciate it!!!

Abundance of Sunshine

Sunday evenings I find myself being extremely pouty and cranky.  Ugh. The weekend is nearly over, and another work week is around the corner.  But, Kevin and I will be kid- free this next coming weekend, so something to look forward to and get me through this next week.

We had a good wknd.  We couldn't have had better weather Saturday and Sunday. Gorgeous weather with cooler temperatures! Friday evening wasn't much fun because Houston basically had a tsunami come through, and it took me almost 2 hours to get home from work.  Yes, 2 hours to go 22 miles.  You can imagine how much of a happy camper I was when I walked in the door.  Kevin rented some movies from the red box, so we just chilled once I got home.

Saturday morning Kevin took Dane to watch his school's softball game.  He has to go to so many extra curricular activities during the school year, so he normally picks games that his personal students are participating in.  His students are constantly asking him to bring Dane to their games, so they can see him.  This game they were honoring the softball coach who has been a coach for the school for several decades.  She recently had to retire due to cancer, so it was a good game to attend.  Dane had a BLAST! I didn't even think to put sunscreen on him before they left...major momma fail.  He came back with pretty rosy cheeks.  I opted out of going, totally took advantage of having some alone time and went shopping instead.  I FINALLY found some wall art for our kitchen wall.  It's ONLY been 4 years of having a blank wall.
Kevin sent me a couple pics from his phone while they were at the game.  There was a big hill that Dane had fun rolling down.

Saturday evening we had some fun with our class at Clay's Restaurant.  This is where we had Dane's 3rd birthday party, and hadn't been back since.  It's such a fun place for kids.  Huge area for the kids to run around and play with sand boxes, and animals to feed.  Dane had lots of friends to play with.  We had a hard time getting them to slow down long enough to eat.  They ran their hearts out, played football, tag, cops and robbers etc etc.  I forgot my camera so Kevin took a couple pics with his phone.  It was great to see everyone and hang out while our kids played.

I'm not sure what Drew and Dane are doing in the picture below.  Crazy boys

Dane and Dean were put in "jail" by Drew, so they were just chatting away and giggling while waiting for someone to free them.

Sunday we went to church, and then had an outside patio lunch at Gringos.  It was so nice outside, we definitely didn't want to be cooped indoors today.  After lunch we went home to change, ran by Target to get a kite and then headed to a park.  It was crazy windy until we got the kite and then the wind seemed to disappear. The only way we could keep the kite in the air was by Kevin running while holding it. We'll have to try it again another day. We let Dane play at the park for a while. It was just nice to be outside with my boys, and not die from a heat stroke.  We don't have too many of these kind of days left, I'm sure.  Not looking forward to the summer heat that will be here before we know it.
Another good weekend for the books.

Just a Funny

"I can clean up MY playroom ALL BY MYSELF, because I'm a big boy, BUT I'm going to LET YOU help me a little bit"

And this is what happens when little man skips his nap at school.
All cuddled up in our bed about 5:00 pm

Y'all it's Friday!!!
Holla!!

Mid-week morning date

Today is my off day from work.  A much needed day off from work.  2 more work days this week till the weekend.  I think I can I think I can.
This morning Dane woke up at the crack of dawn.  No surprise there. UGH.   Normally he starts requesting peanut butter toast and chocolate milk from the second you make eye contact with him. He shows no mercy in the mornings. Ha
This morning when he woke me up he climbed into my bed and was real quiet and very so lightly patted my back.  I pretended to be asleep longer just to see what he was going to do.  He was being extra cuddly and sweet.  When I finally made eye contact with him he started giggling and told me that it was the sun's turn in the sky, and that means we don't sleep anymore.  I told him I was still tired, and surprisingly he was ok with that.  In the sweetest voice he said "well, ok how bout I come back tomorrow"
I told him give me 15 minutes, and then I would get up.  He went and played in his play room and was super quiet.  Crazy morning, but I definitely appreciated that he didn't wake me up with early morning demands like usual.  We started trying to figure out what we were going to make for breakfast, when I decided we needed a little something different this morning.  Some days you just need a special treat, and something out of the ordinary.  I had a couple errands that needed to be run, and Dane had some Easter money I was going to take him to spend, so just decided to make it into a fun morning for the little man. A date if you will.  So, we headed to IHOP to get pancakes. Chocolate Chip Pancakes. Because how fun are those?? Well, he ate those, I opted not to because I'm still on a diet.  Dane was so excited to order a Happy Face Pancake.  This pancake made his day.  Seriously.
Pictures courtesy of my cell phone today.

While we waited on the food we colored on the kid's paper and I asked Dane to write his name.  We have been working on letters with him. Normally in order for him to write his name we have to write it first, and then he copies each letter underneath it.  But, this morning before I could write it out he told me he wanted to do it by himself.  So, I said ok, expecting him to only write a D.
But, he wrote this...
I was really impressed.  He got the E and N mixed up, but the fact he knew all the letters in his name I was really proud of him.  Once I told him those letters were in the wrong order he started writing his name correctly.  He knows Crawford starts with a C and can write that without help and also knows Wittschen starts with a W.  He's getting pretty good at writing letters especially if he can copy them, and has gotten pretty good at recognizing letters and telling us what they are.  It's amazing to see him learn all this new stuff.  It's like everyday he does something I didn't know he knew before.

Then we headed to the Lego Store.  I knew this store would blow Dane's socks off.  It's fairly new in the galleria.  Dane was wanting some more lego men with his Easter money and the store has a station where you can create your own personal men.  All different types of lego heads, bodies, accessories etc. I think the lego sets are a little more expensive at the lego store verses like Target, but you can't get individual men at regular stores.  Since he was wanting lego men, I decided to take him to the lego store, because I knew it would be fun for him.
We got there a little too early, and they weren't opened yet.  It was pretty funny because the workers were walking around and kept laughing at how Dane's face was plastered to the glass door looking around, and of course talking nonstop about everything he saw. Dane kept making comments why the men wouldn't open the doors for him.  Thankfully, the galleria has an indoor playground that we went and wasted 30 minutes and let out some energy.

We came back, and Dane LOVED the lego men station.  He built 100 different men, and kept changing the men he was making.  He would have been fine with staying there for hours just creating men and then re-creating them.  It was 3 men for $9.99 which included the legs, body, head, hat or hair and an accessory to go with it like a sword or wrench. Dane made 3 ninja men with the help of one of the workers.  He was really excited to show Kevin his new men.  He kept asking me throughout the day "what time does Daddy get off work today".  Like he can tell time, and like Kevin's time he gets home varies from day to day.  hilarious.

We came home from our lil date, and Dane took a nap while I ran my tail off on our treadmill and then cleaned up the house a little bit while watching reality tv.
All in all it was a great day off.

Constant chatter

This is my life right now.  This commercial is so funny and oh, how I can relate.

Dane is as cute as he can be, but I'm telling you there are days that he can wear you out. He is in a chatter box stage, and seriously NEVER. STOPS. TALKING.  The only time he is somewhat quiet is when he is sleeping, and I can't even say he is quiet then.  He yells out in his sleep and talks a lot.  Sad to say it, but he gets the sleep-talking from me.  I would like to say that his daytime chatter he gets from someone else.  AHEM. He will say the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over again until you answer or repeat what he is saying.  A simple nod of the head or eye contact is not enough for the little man.  Kevin and I get a tad frustrated at times when he repeats the same phrase a million times.  On a positive side- he is so super chatty that he isn't shy with anyone, and can make friends with any kid he comes in contact with. No matter where we are if there are kids around he doesn't know he always seems to make friends with them pretty quick and will start playing with them with no hesitation. He is going to be a very social person, I can already tell.  Not to mention a tad sarcastic, which he gets honestly from Kevin.  No doubt. And I'm sure his little mouth will get him in all kinds of trouble, as he gets older.  I have a feeling he will be that kid who is loved by his teachers and knows how to charm them with his giggle and dimples, but will be that same kid who is always in trouble for non-stop talking.

Anyone want to make bets now?

No Girls Allowed

This was a boys only weekend.  Kevin was a busy bee the past couple days, and I on the other hand spent the weekend mostly relaxing.
Friday Kevin and Dane went to the Father's/Son preschool adventure.  Kevin said Dane had an absolute blast at the event, and they both had lots to talk about when they got home.  The theme was Planes Trains and Automobiles which is right up Dane's alley.  There was a fire truck, a limo, couple motorcycles and a trackless train that the boys were able to climb on and ride, and then different stations that they could build race cars and planes.  Dane had a lot of fun, and was really excited when he got home to show me all his fun stuff and tell me all about their outing.  He came home with a race car he had made, a wooden plane, a train whistle and the picture of Kevin and him on a motorcycle.  Kevin brought my little point and shoot camera with him, and I was so happy to see that not only did he take pictures for me, but Dane's head was actually in the pictures.  HaHa  There has been times when Kevin is in charge of taking pics and I get the camera and he has taken maybe 2 pics and Dane's head is either cut off or his eyes are closed or it's blurry. :) But, he did really good this time and got some good shots.  I enjoyed having a quiet house for a couple hours Friday night, and being able to lounge and relax.

Dane with his buddy Mason.

thought this pic was cute with Dane chilling on the bike like a grown man

Saturday morning we went to Memorial City Mall.  I wanted to go to Express and use my gift card that I got back on Valentine's Day.  Yes... I still haven't used it 2 months later.  And I needed to get Dane some more shorts, since he is growing like a weed. The ones from last year are getting a bit Daisy Duke ish on him if you will.  So, while I went and shopped I left the boys at the gigantic castle/playground so Dane could play.  I had a coupon for Old Navy, and ended up getting Dane $75 worth of clothes for $30.  Now that will make you feel great! Major Score! While I was at Express Kevin would send me pics from his phone of Dane playing.  I was a little shocked when I saw Dane climbing up pretty high like a monkey.  I'm pretty sure if I was the one watching Dane, there's no way I would have let him do that.  Kevin definitely lets him be more of a dare devil than I do.  When I got back to the play ground Dane was a hot sweaty mess.  I'm talking beat red cheeks, and hair soaking wet.  He had played his little heart out, and ran around like a crazy person.  We ended our mall excursion with some ice cream before heading out.

When we got home Dane took a very long nap which was nice.  Then Dane and I spent the afternoon watching movies from the red box and just chilling while Kevin had more guys-only plans.  He went to a thing called Beast Feast, which is basically a bunch of dudes eating their weight in game food.  Kevin said they ate venison, elk, pheasant, sausage, brisket, and ribs and the list goes on and on.  He had a great time hanging out with all the guys, playing washers and horseshoes and he said the food was really really good.  He ate enough where he is good for the next couple of weeks.  He smelled like a bbq pit when he got home.

This is the only picture that Kevin took, and sent me while he was away.  I guess when in a crowd of men, it's not cool to take pictures. Ha
But... this pic is pretty classic
A rake being used to get the sausage off the pit because the fire was so hot to get too close.  A RAKE?? Yes, a rake that is used on the ground to gather leaves was being used to take food off the grill.
 Boys will be boys.

That's our Fri and Sat in a nutshell.  Kevin had fun spending the weekend with boys, and I enjoyed having a low key weekend and catching up on some DVR shows.
