4 weeks of Hell and a glimpse of sunshine

It's been a little while since I have been on here.  Not a whole lot has been going on besides work and school.  Our evenings haven't been much fun lately because we have been dealing with some bad behavior at school from the little dude.  Dane being in kindergarten has not gone at all like we were expecting, and to say that we were totally blindsided and completely shocked would be an understatement.  I prayed and prayed that he would get a nice, patient, loving, sweet teacher.  Be careful for what you pray for.  He has the sweetest teacher.  She is so kind and patient and everything you would want for your kindergartner.  But, really what Dane needed was someone to be a little more stern from the beginning so he could see who was boss.  He has had a hard time adjusting to the expectations of being a kindergartner.  If I told you he has already had a visit to the Principal's office would you be totally shocked?? Because I was when I got that call.

So, needless to say the evenings have been rough. We have gotten more bad notes home than I'd like to admit, emails and phone calls from his teacher, we have had a teacher/parent conference, etc.  We have done everything we knew to do and nothing was working.  Punishments, toys taken away, bribery, positive reinforcements, etc etc.  Before this week he had not watched tv or anything electronic since school had started, legos and other favorite toys had been put away for weeks at a time, and he has even gone to bed as early as 6:00.  I was on the verge of wrapping myself up in a straight jacket, and admitting myself to a psych ward.

But, this week we have made huge progress.  It's like something has finally clicked, and the days seem to be going better.  Monday was a shaky, but Tuesday and Wednesday were much better days.  He was listening and doing what he was suppose to be doing. We were so happy that the days were better, so we celebrated!! Thursday his teacher sent an email at lunch to tell us that he had had a PERFECT morning!! Then she sent another email about 20 minutes before his school ended to say that the afternoon had been just as PERFECT, and that he would be getting the good behavior award in his folder.  We celebrated like he had just become president. :) And Friday he had another good day, not perfect but enough to make us happy. Hoping the good behavior continues!

My real camera is on vacation.  When things aren't going great I notice I don't pull it out much.
Just been way too tired.  Emotionally and physically.

Last week his school had spirit night at Spring Creek BBQ.  20% of all sales went to Dane's school.
So, we went and got take out to do our part to support the school.  So, we ordered our food and the worker offered us free drinks while we waited for our food.  We got distracted, and somewhere in there was a miscommunication, because I thought Kevin had paid.  He thought I had paid.  We get our food and head for the door, and right before we get out a worker comes running while saying "Y'all didn't pay, Y'all didn't pay".  We turn around and Kevin and I are both shocked and embarrassed.  Oh, did I mention this all happened right in front of the assistant principal who I had just talked to the day before, the one that Dane had to hang out with??? Yeah.  Extremely embarrassing.  This was Dane's reaction while we sat and waited for Kevin to pay for our food.  He thought it was so funny.  I was mortified.
Later in the week we found out that Dane's class had won the most attendance for the kindergarten classes.  So, his class all won t-shirts.  Woohoo!

This picture says it all for the last few weeks.  It's been rough.

Last week the color of the day was BLUE! I've realized with this whole color day thing that I need to step out of the box and buy Dane more colors.  His closet is full of blue, gray, and black.  So, blue was easy peasy to find something for him to wear.  He has learned how to spell and read all the colors they have done so far. Pretty Cool.

Last Saturday we watched the Aggies play SMU.  This was the only bit of tv Dane had watched since school started.  He started off strong, waving his white towel like the fans do.

Then shortly after he brought his sleeping bag in and watched like this.

It didn't take long before he was like this.

Halfway into the first quarter he was out! Too exciting for him, I guess.

Sunday we enjoyed a nice lunch after church at Panara Bread.  Little dude was on his best behavior at church, so we were hopeful that it would spread over to school.

Good report on Tuesday so we celebrated with malts and movie night.  Dane was really excited about both.

My cute fall decor I made.  Of course, it was Pinterest inspired.

Thursday Dane got off the bus yelling that his folder got moved ZERO times!!! We were beyond excited.  I think his bus driver thought we were crazy, because we were yelling and screaming with excitement.  So happy!!!!!!
This Thursday was Green day.

He got a hip hop horray award for perfect behavior, and stickers on his daily sheet.  So nice to see stickers instead of a letter circled for what he needs work on, and words telling us all that he did wrong.

Before we could really celebrate Dane had swimming lessons.  He ended up getting an award there too for completing a swim level and getting moved up.  Good day for the little dude!
We celebrated the perfect day with a trip to Chuck e Cheese.  Yes, we did it up.  We all deserved to celebrate! I haven't seen Dane so happy in a long time.  He was so proud of himself, and so happy that we were so proud.  It really built up his love tank I think.

Thursday he also came home with a note saying that he had earned enough super stars to get to participate in hat day that was Friday.  He was really excited to get to pick a hat to bring to school.
Friday was spirit day, and hat day so he got to participate in both.
I had a feeling though that the hat would be a distraction, and I was right.  He had a good day Friday, but did get his hat taken away for whatever reason.  But, other than that his day was good, so we couldn't complain.

Friday night we spent the night playing the wii.  First time he played since before school started.  This is how I found him.  Ha

Today I spent the day cleaning out my closet.  It's been a 2 week long project, but it's finally done.  While I was doing that Kevin took Dane to his friend Mason's birthday party.  It was at the movie theater, the kids got to watch Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.  And then they walked over to the cookie company to have cake and presents.  Dane had a great time!!!
The rest of the day has been spent with us being lazy and watching movies waiting for the Aggie game to start.

And now that I'm done with this post, the Aggies have won their game! Whoop!

Here we go again

This kid...
Giving us a run for our money in kindergarten.
When I was in school I was pretty shy, NEVER got into trouble, always listened to my teachers, never got in trouble for talking or being silly.
But, he did not get that trait.  His teacher would never describe him as being quiet or shy.  :) Mr personality.  Class Clown.  Marches to the beat of his own drum.
He is loving school, but having to learn when it is time to be silly and when it is time to sit quietly.

And he has gotten so independent.  Loves going through the cafeteria line in the mornings, and enjoying pizza on Fridays.  I have to keep a close eye on his account, because a couple days he has gone through more than once.  He's like a snack hoarder.  He gets breakfast, and then buys a snack for later in the day, and has even gotten 2 snacks in a day so he would have a snack when he got home.  Had to nip that in the bud.  He was saving up food for a natural disaster.  Crazy kid.

This was the best we could do for yellow day on Thursday. I dug all through his closet, and this was the only shirt that had yellow in it.  Next Thursday is Blue... we will have lots of options for this day!

Silly silly goose.

We had Dane's first and last baseball practice for the fall season.  You read that right.  We had planned on him playing this fall, but after dealing with straight chaos and no organization or communication we pulled him out and got our money back.  The league we played with in the spring doesn't offer fall ball for his age group, so we went with a new league.  It had been months of frustration and then the practice just did us in.  So, no baseball till the spring which is probably better anyway while Dane gets adjusted to school.

Friday evening my lovely madre and favorite niece came into town to spend some time with us.  We had a fun dinner at Gringos, got to catch up on things.  Saturday they watched Dane so Kevin and I could go to College Station for the big game.  Dane loves having family in town!

My sweet friend Becca invited us to come hang out with a bunch of her friends to watch the game Saturday.  We left super early Saturday morning to head to College Station.  We knew traffic was going to be terrible, and parking was going to be a big mess.  So, our plan was for us to park at her place and share a cab with her and her boyfriend and another couple.  She spoiled us rotten with a huge breakfast before we headed to campus.  I've known Becca since 2001 when we were in x-ray school together in College Station.  Love this girl!
We went and hung out most of the day at the tailgating area with a bunch of her friends.  We had so much fun.  Aggies are seriously so generous with other Aggies, regardless if you know them or not.  Each tent is full of yummy food and they don't care who you are but you are invited to eat as much as you want.  After a couple minutes of being there Kevin and I were surrounded by 100 new friends who were happy to have us there.  We had a blast.   It was SOOOOOOOO hot.  Ugh.  So hot.  We were a sweaty mess.  We cheered and cheered for our Aggies.  Sadly, they lost but only by 7 points to the #1 team.  They played hard and never stopped fighting.  We were proud of them!
The ending of the night was a bit different than we had planned.  Game was over, so we were ready to head back to Cypress.  We spent about an hour trying to get a hold of a taxi.  We called all 10 companies that were listed on the internet.  Couldn't get through any of them for the longest time, and then finally got through and it was a 3 hour wait.  Everyone and their mommas were calling for cabs, obviously.  So, we decided to walk.  Yes. Walk.  Kevin and I started walking with hopes of catching an empty cab on the way.  No such luck.  It was a LONG walk!! It sucked.  It was late, and so hot and humid, and I was wearing sandals which caused a huge blister on the bottom of my foot.  Ouch.  I made it about 3/4s of the way before having to stop at Chili's.  I hung out there and got us a soft drink while Kevin ran the rest of the way and then came and picked me up.  Oh, and both of our cell phones by the time we got to Chili's was completely dead.  Not a good situation.  But, the hubs is a runner so after leaving me at Chili's he took off and was back in record time.  We can laugh about it now, so it's all good.  Well worth it, because spending the day in College Station was really a great time.  And I loved getting to catch up with Becca.  Love those Aggies!

our sad pouty face when Alabama won

I'm so sad that the weekend is over and it's back to work I go.  Boo!

And that's a fact Jack!

Saturday we celebrated our friend Zach's 8th birthday.  Can't believe he is already 8 years old.  Time has flown!  His actual birthday is on the same day that Kevin proposed to me 8 years ago! Sept 8, 2005!! Again, can't believe it's been 8 years since that moment when I was just a girl thinking we were going to a nice dinner, and had no idea the most important question I'd ever have to answer would be answered the night.
8 years.   Seriously mind blowing.
Time is just a moving!

We had a fun time at the party.  Got to catch up with the Gonzalez clan which is always nice, and we got to hang out in the photo booth which is a blast!
Can anyone guess what Zach's party theme was?? HAHAHAHAHAHA
So cute!

 the birthday boy, Zach

Dane was attached to the bandanna.  Wore it the entire time we were at the party.

Saturday evening we listened to the Aggie/Bearkat game on the radio.  The game wasn't on tv, which was a shame.  So, we just tuned in on the College Station game day station.  My poor Bearkats got beat pretty bad.
Eat Em Up Kats/ Gig Em!!

Sunday my man surprised me with a little gift since it was Sept 8th.  Very sweet, and unexpected.

And the party started a new trend... a redneck trend.
or a ninja trend
or a sushi chef
whatever you want to call it.

He wore this bandanna the entire next day, never taking it off. Obsessed.

Fun stuff!
